Why has bingo been ignored as a major form of gambling?

With the recent explosion in certain forms of gambling on TV, like poker and blackjack, why has bingo seemingly been ignored? Why is it that there no televised bingo tournaments, or special shows based around bingo? Bingo is just as great a game as the others, right? Well, in the world of TV, being a great game is not enough.

The main reasons why bingo has been ignored as a major form of gambling on TV is because of the personalities involved and the image bingo has.

Be honest for a minute…what kind of people do you think of when you think of bingo? It is probably a bunch of middle aged and older women sitting in a community center playing on a Wednesday night - not exactly the glamorous life (this is not to say that bingo is not glamorous, the above is just people’s perception of the game).

Now, when you think of blackjack and poker, what do you think of? You think of people like Amarillo slim, the Las Vegas hustler type, and playboys. Which one do you think translates better to TV? The answer is obvious.

But, is this really the reason why online bingo has lagged behind the other games in terms of popularity? Well, it is one of the major ones.

As soon as the TV was invented, people wanted to imitate what they saw. If someone acted one way on TV, they wanted to do the same. If someone cooked a specific recipe on TV, they followed suit. If someone looks cool playing poker on TV, guess who was playing poker the next day?

So, the lack of TV coverage has definitely hurt the popularity of online bingo (relative to other forms of televised gambling).

However, it is not that big deal, really. If you have been on 888bingo lately, one of the leading bingo sites on the Internet, you will have seen how popular it is, and how many players are playing there. Just because it is not on TV, that doesn’t mean online bingo is being ignored!
